Athletic Position/Target

The short stop sprints to a position prior to the base waiting for a throw from the first baseman. She's in an athletic position with her legs flexed. She gives a target to the fielder.

Timing/Footwork

The short stop times her forward momentum as she begins to touch the base. She's in an athletic position as she times touching the base and receiving the ball at the same time.

Receiving The Ball

The short stop touches the base with her left foot and receives the ball at or near the same time. She is in an athletic position as she catches the ball with her hrowing hand close for a quick transition.

Push/Clear

The short stop begins to plant her right leg as she pushes off the base with her left foot. The push clears her from the base path and base runner. She starts to transfer the ball to her throwing hand while maintaing an athletic balanced position.

Plant/Separation

The short stop plants her right leg with the weight staying on the inside of her right foot. Her left foot is coming off the base and will plant and align for a throw to first base. She separates the ball from the glove while maintaing an athletic balanced position.

Throwing Position

The short stop plants her right leg with the weight staying on the inside of her right foot. Her left foot plants in a postion clearing her from the base path and aligning her throw to first base. The glove is to the ear and the ball is separated. She is in a balanced athletic position with her left shoulder facing the target.
