EXTENDED BACKHAND

The player is in an athletic position. Her glove foot is positioned out in front of the body with the leg well flexed. The throwing hand foot is positioned behind the body with the knee close the the ground. This allows the glove to start outside the foot and work from the ground up. The glove starts open to the target with the arm flexed. The chin should be over the knee with the back relatively flat.

Athletic Starting Position

Through The Ball

The player remains in an athletic position as her glove elbow leads her glove to and through the ball. As the ball enters the glove the player secures the ball by closing the pocket. She does this while retaining her body position. Her chin remains down.

Tracking The Ball

The player remains in an athletic position as she starts to track the ball to her glove. She retains her body position. Her glove is open and to the ball and her arm remains flexed. Her chin is down and her eyes are on the ball.

Glove Elbow Leads

The player remains in an athletic position as she continues to track the ball to her glove. She retains her body position. Her glove elbow, which is still flexed, starts forward leading her open glove to the ball. She does not use her glove hand. Her chin is down and her eyes are on the ball.

Continuation

The player remains in an athletic position as her glove elbow continues leading her glove through the ball. At this point, the glove arm should be flexed at a 90 angle. She does this while retaining her body position. Her chin remains down.

Finish

The player completes the backhand by remaining in an athletic position as her glove elbow finishes high and at a 90 degree angle. Player's who do this incorrectly will finish with a straight arm. She finishes down and in an athletic position.
