ROUTINE GROUNDERS

Athletic Starting Position

The player is in an athletic position.  She is on the balls of her feet which are just outside her shoulders. The glove foot should be slightly in front of the throwing hand foot. The legs are flexed, the bottom is down, and the back is arched. The glove palm is facing towards the ball with the glove on the ground and the arm flexed. The throwing hand is positioned aboved the ball to keep it in place. The chin is down so the eyes can follow the ball into the glove.

Soft Hands

The player remains in an athletic position as she continues to track the ball to her glove. She retains her body position. Her glove elbow, which is still flexed, starts inward towards the side of the body softening the entry of the ball to the glove. Her throwing hand secures the ball. Her chin is down and her eyes are on the ball.

Tracking The Ball

The player remains in an athletic position as she starts to track the ball to her glove. She retains her body position. Her glove is open and to the ball and her arm remains flexed. Her chin is down and her eyes are on the ball.

Finish

The player completes fielding the grounder by remaining in an athletic position as her elbows finish tucked to the sides of her body and at a 90 degree angle. The player finishes with her glove close to her chest and her throwing hand gripped to the ball. She remains out over the ball with her chin down.
